What is dermatology?
Dermatology is the medical specialty that deals with diseases of the skin, nails and hair, together referred to as "skin diseases. A physician specializing in dermatology, is called "skin doctor" or "dermatologist.
Skin diseases are very common and there is hardly anyone who does not occasionally has something to hide. The diagnosis of skin diseases consists primarily mainly of inspection: good looking and describe what is being seen. This description is a specific jargon, see morphology skin disorders.

- Pigment abnormalities, such as hypopigmentation which albinism and vitiligo are examples, such as hyperpigmentation and melasma which, pityriasis versicolor examples.
- Auto-immune disorders of the skin, such as psoriasis, lichen planus, cutaneous lupus erythematosus, Jessner's disease, pemphigoid.
Treatment methods
For the treatment include the following techniques:
- Medications, either locally as a cream, ointment, injection, or systemically.
- Surgical techniques such as excision, shave, deroofing, phlebectomy according to Muller.
- Different types of therapy:
-Laser therapy with eg CO2, Nd: YAG or pulsed-dye laser, or flash lamp
-Photodynamic therapy
-Ultraviolet light therapy with UVB or PUVA.
- Ambulatory compression therapy, lymphatic drainage, compression stockings to prevent edema.
- Sclerocompressietherapie: the spray-painting of varicose veins.
- Celon RFITT method: radiofrequency treatment of varicose veins
